Small Batch Coffee Roasters- U.K.

Small Batch Coffee Roasters has nine locations sprinkled throughout the country including their original cafe, Goldstone Villas in Hove. What began as a small family-run operation, has since (obviously) expanded and it’s easy to see why. Granted, I have not had the pleasure of visiting any of their cafes, I was able to get my hands on some of their beans that they roast in-house, and let me tell you, they are very, very good! In addition to great coffee, they also really seem to care about every step in the coffee roasting process- from sourcing ethical beans, to roasting and packaging them with care- I can confidently say that Small Batch has quickly become one of my favourite roasters.

Here’s what the bag itself looked like.

They may be small in terms of batch size, but they certainly aren’t small in terms of their coffee’s flavour. I tried their Ethiopian blend, which I might add had a very interesting descriptor regarding tasting notes- raisins. True to their word, the raisins really did come through and it surprisingly was a nice compliment, working well with other aspects of the coffee. Other things that stood out to me about this roast included the slight spiciness to it that sets it apart from other, similar blends. Additionally, it had a nice body and the finish lingers the perfect amount of time. Overall, it was a quite mellow, yet tasty blend. Would definitely try it again!

Overall: 4/5

  1. Have to convince someone to go to the UK and show you around the area. It’s really beautiful there as well as good food and coffee.
