The Review:
Now, I don’t have a ton of experience with African coffees outside of Ethiopia and Kenya, so when Maalum reached out to me regarding their roast from Rwanda, I was quite excited to give it a go. On the nose, this coffee was rich-smelling with an abundance of chocolate notes. These chocolate notes really came through upfront on the taste as well. This mingled with a blend of spices that added a really nice touch. It was almost reminiscent of a holiday roast and is perfect to drink on a cold winter day. These rich notes give way to a smooth, easy drinking finish marked by fruity notes (I noticed pineapple, in particular). This roast has a smooth linger that, in my experience, is more characteristic of a medium roast as opposed to one that is slightly darker. Overall, this is a very solid coffee and it really reinforces my love of African coffee. Thanks for this, Maalum!

The Verdict:
Appearance: 4.5/5
Aroma: 3.75/5
Flavour: 4/5
