Beach Camp Coffee Co. It’s hard not to love them. They have a great logo, they’re big on sustainability, they roast great coffee and John, the head roaster, is a delight to chat to. I originally connected with John about a year ago, and with a recent move to the Island, it was the perfect time to try some of his coffee. And now that I’m over here, it’s that much easier to make a trip out to Port Renfrew and visit the roasting shack in person. Anyway, enough rambling, let’s get to reviewing!
Before we dive in, I have to say I was quite impressed with this roast overall. In terms of aroma, I could pick out some rich, smooth, chocolate notes that I found quite enticing. The taste did not disappoint. I found this to be a very easy drinking and versatile coffee. Notes of cherry were very predominant upfront, as well as a subtle spiciness that really added an element of interest. This faded in the middle, then was bookended by those beautiful chocolate notes that I picked up in the aroma. There was also a good amount of linger in this roast. Overall, I found this to be a very approachable cup, one that would please a large section of coffee drinkers. However, it was also complex enough for one to appreciate the delicate notes in the roast. This was a great first showing from Beach Camp and I can not wait to try the other two coffees I have from them!
