Now, those of you who have been around the blog for a while, the name Smoking Gun probably sounds familiar as I’ve talked about them a couple times over the years (man that makes me sound old haha). Anyway, if you need a refresher, or you missed those posts, you can find them here.
In the later stages of last year, Smoking Gun made their big move out to their brand new roastery/cafe out in Chilliwack. Having moved from the mainland to the Island, I did not get the opportunity to check out the new space- until recently that is. On a recent trip out to visit the fam, I took a couple detours to check out some fresh coffee spaces. What Smoking Gun has done in their new space is incredible. I wish I took more photos when I was there because it is simply stunning! Now, being in a new space, I had to double check to make sure the coffee was still tasting as good as the cafe looked.
The short answer is yes, the coffee did measure up quite impeccably to the space, but we all know you’re here for the long answer. On this particular trip I ordered a flat white. It was a very classic espresso up front, with chocolate notes hitting in abundance. There was a slight nuttiness to it that really helped propel it along to its big finish. At the back end I got a huge hit of blueberry which really was a pleasant surprise. Overall, a very solid flat white. The milk interacted with the espresso beautifully and the texture was smooth and velvety. If you ever find yourself out in Chilliwack, Smoking Gun is a must stop. Brandon and the team have something special going on!
